Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling and submission based martial art and combat sport that emphasizes how to take down an opponent and defend yourself on the ground. With our program, you'll learn how to quickly take control of a situation and subdue an an opponent with submissions.

We teach both Gi based BJJ which uses a uniform as well as No-Gi which typically requires a rash guard and fight shorts.

Ty Upshur


Professor Ty Upshur is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under 3rd Degree Black Belt, Professor Jay Pages. 

He started his career in 1996 under Roland Sarria (The Owner and promoter of Rage in the Cage). He was just ending his Free-style/Greco-Roman Wrestling season in the summer of 1996 and decided to start training in a new style of grappling called Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and combat ground fighting under the RITC's former name, Brausa. Ty began to fall in love with the sport of Grappling/MMA and started competing in tournaments and shows. 

He began his coaching career at Rage in the Cage (RITC) training center in 2003 as an MMA and Gracie Jiu-jitsu coach. He coached for RITC until 2010 before deciding to leave his long time venture with Rage in the Cage training Center to open his own gym; Bambusa MMA. Since then he has coached and trained many to become champions and he was also previously the head Jiu-jitsu and MMA coach for the UFC Training Center in Mesa. 

Ty is also available for private training sessions. Whether you’re preparing for a tournament or just need some extra coaching, you’ll experience far better results when the instruction is tailored towards your own goals.

Mario Celaya

Our No-Gi Instructor, Mario Celaya, is a Brown Belt under Professor Ty Upshur. He has competed extensively in both BJJ and No-Gi submission grappling tournaments over the last decade. Coach Mario also has a background in mixed martial arts being a licensed corner-man while helping competitors get ready for their cage fights.
